Trying to find Cox

Hi Fred
Thanks for your message. I had forgotten I had posted that request and have not been checking for replies - sorry!

Are these people in your tree? If so, could I have access please to see if I can tie anything else up?

My problem is that Frank Cox bc1868 was my great grandfather but he is missing from any records between 1881 and 1905. I know that is because he was in the Army but it makes it very difficult to tie him up to his family. I feel fairly certain that the family we have mentioned are his as Frank's marriage cert states his father as Levi (a coal merchant). However, I can't be 100% sure and don't want to start researching the wrong line. Levi is actually listed as a corn merchant on censuses, although the words are similar.

I would just like to be totally certain of my facts before I go any further. Many thanks for your time and trouble and I will keep a look out for a reply.

Best wishes
Dawn

Hi Dawn,
Cornelius Cox (b.c.1836) and Levi Cox (b.c.1837) were brothers. They were the sons of Joseph Cox (b.c.1846) Sarah Cox (b.c.1811). Joseph was the son of James Cox (b.c.1785)
George Cox (b.c.1852) was the younger brother of Cornelius and Levi.
Frank Cox (b.c.1868) and Ralph Strutt Cox (b.c.1871) were the children of Levi and his wife Sarah Cox, nee Strutt..
Proof of Sarah Cox's maiden name can be found in the 1871 census which shows Levi and Sarah together with their children and living with them was a Frederick Strutt, aged 14, who was listed as Levi's brother-in-law.
I am not going to type out the census returns now as I don't know whether you have come to the same conclusion as I have. If you need them, just give me a call, and I will send them to you.
Very best wishes, Fred.

Does anyone have details of the following people in their trees? Levi Cox b1837 in Ivanhoe or Ivinghoe, Bucks. (Married Sarah Strutt) Cornelius Cox b1836 in Ivanhoe or Ivinghoe, Bucks. Joseph Cox b1814 in Studham, Herts. George Cox b1852 in Dunstable, Beds. Ralph Strutt Cox b1871 in Middlesex Frank Cox b1868 in Luton, Beds. They are all members of the same family and I think they are connected to my great grandfather but I am having trouble proving it. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks Dawn
