I am trying to find out more about my grandfather The Honerable Major Albert King born in London (where not known) and died in SA 1958. He served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers in WW1, rising to Major and earned the Military Cross. He went to South Africa at the time of the Boer War and served with the Free State Agricultural Department until 1912. He went out to East Africa where he started sisal farming at Lindi and Pyrethrum in the mountains. He was also a member of Parliament in Tanganika. Between 1902-1912 in Bloemfontein he represented the Free State soccer and cricket team. In 1906,was the member of the SA soccer team which toured Argentine. He built The Kings View Hotel in Margate Natal in 1947. He had two daughters by his 1st marriage to Estella Anne Rankin (died 1968)- my mother Aline and Phillis who died at 3years. Then 2 sons by his 2nd wife(unknown) - Guy Denham King born 1926, he went straight from school and joined his fathers regiment until 1947. Played rugby for SA. His brother Derek Brenan Gordon King born 1927. He studied architecture but went for horticulture and had a nursery at Botha's Hill Durban Natal. All this info I have gleaned from an old news paper 1953 South Coast Herald, but it does not help me with the finer details - exact place of birth or who were his parents. Any info gratefully accepted.

Hi Mary-Anne,
I have been researching this line for a friend of mine Sandi Queenan nee' King daughter of Denham Guy King. Sandi said Albert King was born in Harrow London. The records have a few entries about his estimated date of birth so we are stuck. I will have to check the army records to find out more about him. Certianly, if he earned an MC it would be recorded.
I look forward to hearing from you.
With all good wishes,
Jonathan Stevens London UK
p.s. Sandi emigrated from Durban to Canada
