My grandfather, WILLIAM DAVIS, was born in LIVERPOOL in 1850/51 and married FRANCES JANE STRONGITHARM in 1892 in London. They had 6 children; Frances, Eva, Ida, Dorothy, William (Bill) and Leah (my mother). From 1892 onward he lived in Chelsea and worked as a Painter/Decorator. On his marriage certificate he gave his father's name as, WILLIAM DAVIS and his profession as Physician (we have doubts about the truth of that statement). I believe that he had a first wife and children of that marriage (possibly girls), and I also understand that he had a sister that would visit about once a year, presumably from Liverpool (but that is pure conjecture on my part). He may have been in the Merchant Navy for a time. Does this ring any bells with anyone out there? I have no idea what happened to his first family. Can anyone help with this? |
