My father was Carleton George Hill, he was born in Ooty, India, in 1913, he had a sister Grace, their father was Robert Carleton Hill who married Norah Minnie Doughty in Ooty, India, on the 14th April 1910, at St Thomas' Church, Ooty. Robert's father was Rowland James Hill. Apparently anyone with the name Carleton is likely to have connections with Carleton, Ontario, Canada. I believe that Rowland Hill was probably born in Ireland. Robert Hill is believed to have travelled to India with race horses from Canada, and was heavily involved with setting up the races in Ooty, India. He was the Station Master and Transport Manager on the Nilgiri Hills Railway where he worked until he either retired or died. I wonder if there is anyone who could fill in some of the missing pieces of the puzzle, any help would be greatly appreciated. |
