Hello My forebear William Harrison (weaver) was born in Atherton Lancashire in 1803. He married Agnes (born 1800 Kendal Westmorland). Their sons Thomas (1824?) and Anthony (1831) were born in Kendal Westmorland. Anthony was a cabinet maker. In 1853 he married Sarah Ann Ashes in Manchester Lancashire. Sarah Ann was born 1837, the daughter of Richard Ashes, harrier and Elizabeth Anderson. In 1841 the Ashes family lived in Pendleton, Lancashire. Anthony and Sarah Ann's first child Alfred (1855) was born in Pendleton, Lancashire followed by second child Sarah Ellen (1856). Their third child Joseph (1860) was born in Oldham Lancashire, followed by fourth child Alice (1864). In 1861 Anthony and Sarah Ann were still living in Oldham, and had a boarder Thomas Harrison (stone mason) aged 36? years, married, born in Kendal Westmorland. This may have been Anthony's brother Thomas. We think that Anthony's daughter Sarah Ellen may have died in 1866 (aged about 10). In 1871 Anthony was again living with his parents William and Agnes in Kendal, together with son Joseph and daugher Alice. Anthony's wife Sarah Ann and daughter Sarah Ellen are not mentioned. We dont have any further information about them. By 1881 Anthony (widower) had entered Kendal workhouse. In the same census a widowed Thomas Harrison (stone mason) born about 1824 in Kendal, Westmorland was living in Bolton, Lancashire. This may have been Anthony's brother Thomas. In 1882-3 Anthony's son Joseph Harrison (carpenter) emigrated to Australia on the ship 'Pericles'. Joseph was my great-grandfather. In 1891 Joseph's' father Anthony remained an inmate of Kendal workhouse. A Thomas Harrison was also there, aged about 65. He may have been Joseph's uncle Thomas. In 1900 Joseph's' brother Alfred (cotton machinery fitter) was living in Oldham when Alfred's wife Jane died (aged 47) at 20 Lowerhouse Street Oldham. She was buried at Chadderton Cemetery. Alfred's son H? Harrison of 14 Granite? Street is mentioned on the death certificate. In 1902 Joseph's father Anthony died in Kendal workhouse. In 1905 Joseph's' brother Alfred died in Crompton, Lancaster. Alfred's daughter S Butterworth of 7 Mortar? Street is mentioned on the death certificate. We would love to find decendants of Joseph's uncle Thomas, or Joseph's brother Alfred, his sister Sarah Ellen (if she survived childhood) or sister Alice. regards Diane |
