My maiden name is Dorothy Hartshorne. My great grandparents were Henry Young and Agnes (nee Rattery). Agnes hailed from Hawick/Galashields and moved to Hindley,Wigan,Lancs. for work on a farm there. Henry lived in East Coker, but lost his first wife and moved to Hindley (the same farm) with his three young daughters. They were married there. Henry died in 1902 and Agnes in 1924. They were married at St James,Wigan on 27th April,1880. Henry's children were Emma , Lucy and Eliza Jane (I think). Their children together were:- Alice,Janet Elizabeth (known as Jenny),Harry,David,Albert (my Grandfather) and John. Henry's first marriage was to Mary Ann Adams a in 1866.W My Grandfather married Martha (nee Smith) at St Catherines,Wigan on 25.5.1910. Their children were:- Elsie (my Mother) her twin sister Dorothy and Olive who weighed fifteen and a half pounds at birth. Olive died aged 23 with a brain tumour. Doroty (Elsie'stwin) died26th Dec.1990 aged 80. Elsie died 2.10.2000 aged almost 90.c I think Henry's first wife was Mary Ann Adams, she is buried in East Coker,Somerset but I cannot find her grave. Hope this is familiar to more Youngs. Hope to hear from some, Dorothy Hartshorne (nee Tildsley) |
