Trying to find Green

I'm trying to find some missing links for my grandfather Henry Green was born c1867 in Liverpool, son of James Green. Family rumour has it that he was baptised in St. Oswalds Church, Liverpool (I think that's RC and in Old Swan). I can find no verifiable trace of him in census returns until 1901. Before that I have possible matches in the 1871 and 1881 censuses but there are discrepancies with other info I have. In 1901he was a railway navvy in Disley Cheshire, married in Dec 1891 to Esther Ann Ackroyd in Pudsey Yorkshire. By 1901 they had 4 kids, Edith, Mary, Harry and Charlie and my Dad John was born in August 1901. They went on to have 5 more kids, Jim, Elsie, Annie, Lily and Connie and he was killed in a railway accident in about 1918. Can anyone help?
