I am having great difficulty in finding where my gg grandfather was born, and I hope someone might be able to help me. He was JAMES BROWN born 1843 in SCOTLAND, his parents were JAMES BROWN and ELIZABETH, maiden name unknown, they were born about 1817 and 1818 in SCOTLAND. James siblings were :- CHRISTENIA ? born about 1845 ISABELLA born about 1848 GEORGE born about 1852 ANN CECILIA both born about 1856, I guess they were twins. Isabella married HUGH GUNN in COLINTON, 16th NOVEMBER 1866 and they had at least 2 children, JOHN born about 1867-8 and ELIZABETH born 23rd OCTOBER 1870, at 14 SOUTH ???? STREET, GLASGOW, I was unable to read the full address. James father died prior to Isabella's marriage in 1866, so he, his widowed mother and all his siblings moved to WARDEN, NORTHUMBERLAND where they were included on the 1871 census. Because James Brown is such a common name I have been unable to establish were they were born, someone has suggested the Edinburgh area, but it is like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack!!! Is there anyone who recognises the above names and help me with a place of birth, any info would be greatly appreciated. DENISE BROWN. |
