Trying to find Robertson

I have a James Henry born 1899 in Nazeing, Essex. He married Dorothy Ellis and on his marriage cert it lists his dad as William Robertson (poss from Scotland) but the family say his father was Henry Robertson (also poss from Scotland) and this matches what I have on census records as well as a possible birth cert. The family also seem to recall stories of him being illegitimate. If anyone can shed any light on this I would be very grateful as I'm unsure which person to trace back, Henry or William. James & Dorothy had Keith, Dennis & Dorothy sometime between approx 1920 and 1925, all in Nazeing. Thanks Linda |
