GWILYM THOMAS EVANS (my Grandfather) born 1890 in Llanedy, Llanelly district, WALES, married for the second time in Sydney. He died 13th February 1959 and was buried in Woden Cemetery in the Presbyterian Section. Searching for AUSTRALIAN descendants of his second marriage please. Marraige details -St Stephen's Church, Sydney, 1929. He married MARJORIE Elizabeth nee McKID, a nurse, daughter of John and Catherine nee Urqhuart. Her sister Chrissie was a witness. (Now dec'd) He had already moved to Canberra and was an accountant with the Municipal Council. They had OLWEN CATHERINE EVANS in 1931 most likely in Canberra, ACT, OZ. He had lost four fingers in a sawmill accident when young. He was descended from a famous Welsh Preacher Daniel Rowlands. Olwen married and had three children, HELEN, JOHN and BRONWYN by 1959. I do not know whom she married. ( This is not the Olwen Evans who married William Thomas Gerdes.) Gwilym and Marjorie lived in Griffith and Deakin areas of Canberra, living in two homes in Empire Circuit, Deakin (78 and 101. David, my father, was told that his father, Gwilym, had died in 1921.He only found out that his father lived to 1959 in 1962!! Gwilym and my Grandmother Dorothy Rogers, were divorced in 1926, about five years after she had returned to the UK. I am desperately keen to make contact with my half Aunt and cousins. Any help would be greatly appreciated. No offence should be caused at this distance in time. Thanks for help given so far and for others for reading this.Cheers! |
