Trying to find Carter

Hello, I am trying to learn where my grandfather John Carter was born. All records here in America list his birthplace as England, no city or county. My grandmother's bible entry shows his birth date as 27 March 1870. The immigration records have his age as 32 and also list their last residence as Fenton (Staff). He and my grandmother, the former Mary Corbishley were married in Stoke-on-Trent, 22 August 1895. A copy of their marriage record list John Carter age 25 profession as 'potters printer', residence as Campbell Road, Father's name as William Carter (deceased), father's profession as 'Gilder'. I have a copy of their daughter Doris's 1898 birth record which lists John and Mary Carter as parents and residence as 11 Park Road, Fenton. From what information I have, I believe John Carter lived and worked in Stoke-on Trent before and after marriage. He may have been born there also, but I have no proof of this. Actually, he could have been born anywhere. If you have any information about this John Carter or his father William Carter I would like to hear from you. Thank you for taking time to read this. Sincerely, Ron Carter
