Wish to trace the descendents of Carter family who lived in Monnow St Monmouth Wales from 1870 onwards. Thomas Carter born 1812 in Horton-cum-Studley, Oxfordshire, a retired Tax Inspector who also lived in Bow London. His wife was Hannah, a Gregory from Ridlington Norfolk, daughter of Edmund Gregory born 1789'ish. Both are buried in church graveyard in Monmouth. The had a number of children most born in Norfolk or Bow Islington. Robert, Thomas, Sarah & John among them. Robert William Carter, a banker who lived in Downs Park Road Hackney, and Thomas Edmund Carter, a draper. Thomas Edmund married Kate West Robinson who died of TB. Thomas Edmund also died (also buried in same Monmouth graveyard) leaving their son, Thomas Godfrey Carter born 1867, my Great Grandfather. He lived with various members of the Carter family in Wales, Islington and Woolwich London before marrying Elizabeth Ellen Teague, daughter of William Millard Teague, landlord of Barley Mow pub & the Reformers' Tavern in Monmouth. Thomas & Ellen moved to Narbonne Ave, Clapham London with mother in law Elizabeth and sister Gertrude Teague where they lived in 1901. They had no children but Thomas Godfrey Carter had an elligitimate son, Thomas Kenneth Gregory Carter (my Grandfather) with a Kate Morrison in 1908 at 20 Albert Mansions, Lambeth and this boy was later unofficially adopted by a family called Knight. please get in touch if you have any links to any of these families that might help me! |
