My 3xGt-Grandmother is GRACE (also called GRIZEL) MITCHELL. She married ROBERT SPINK in Arbroath, Scotland, on 5 December 1783. Grace and Robert had six children (maybe more) - Katharin (b. 1784), Robert (b. 1787, d. 1841), William (b.1792, d. 1867), James (b.1795), Mary (b. 1800) and Elizabeth (died 1817). I know virtually nothing about this part of my tree further back from Grace and Robert and neither do several others I know searching along the same line – things just seem to disappear into the North Sea mists of time! There is a possibility, however, that Grace Mitchell came from the Shetland Isles and somehow or other met up with and married Robert Spink – Robert, it seems, owned a boat and did a lot of trading. If there are any MITCHELLs out there who have ANY links with the Shetlands from the 18th Century back, I’d really appreciate you getting in touch with me. Best regards and Happy New Year (2006), Philip |
