Trying to find Mitchell

I have for many years been trying to trace my husband's great grand father named James Mitchell born about 1817 in Dundee, Angus Scotland who married a Margaret Barnes born about 1821 of the same place. I have not had any success in Scottish records. As James Mitchell was a seaman, it is thought that he may not have come from Dundee at all, but may have met Margaret Barnes when visiting that port. He may, in fact, be from England. Any information that can throw any light on this person would be greatly appreciated. His son, Joseph Mitchell who married a Mary Ann Hennegan migrated to Australia. He was my husband,s paternal grandfather. I have not yet loaded my family tree on this site, but would be most happy to share information I have on this Mitchell line. Hoping to hear from anyone, yours sincerely, Elva M. Mitchell
