His parents were Joseph Evans [b 1813] and Charlotte Naylor [b1817] in Elsecar. He married Elizabeth Batty [b1844 Brampton Bierlow, Yorkshire]. Their children were:- Emily Evans [b1864 Elsecar Yorkshire], Florence [b 1866 Hoyland Yorkshire], Joseph William [b 1868 Stubbin Yorkshire] Elizabeth Ann [b 1871 Openshaw Lancashire], Joseph Francis [b 1879 Manchester]
