I'm investigating someone born at Haydon's Rd in 1907 too. Have you found any more about the home? My subject was also down as a domestic but some homes trained domestics who had previously been "fallen women". I wonder what the qualifications were?

The mother in the case I'm looking at had a very sucessful career as a cook in smart houses so the time there was beneficial.

Googling shows quite afew people have ancestors born there - and probably not knowing what the address was.

I am trying to find relatives of my father, WILLIAM GEORGE SULLINGS SPENCER, born 1907 in Wilmbledon, mothers name Mary Eliza Spencer, no father on birth certificate. my Father had a sister called Ruth who it is reported emigrated to canada but nothing certain on this. My dad and grandma lived at 47 Haydons Road, Wimbledon when he was born and she was a domestic cook. Any information would be appreciated. 18.6.06 I have now found out that 47 & 49 Haydons Road, Wimbledon was a 'Girl's home' and the hon treasurer was a Jane Witts. Any info on the girls home as well if any one has it, please. 28.10.06 I believe that I have found a link that my Grandmother Mary Eliza Spencer married Frederick James Nye 05/07/1913. Anyone help please> Peter R Spencer
