Trying to find Davies

Thomas Report 1 Sep 2005 20:16

My grandfather , Arthur Thomas Davies, was born in Cogan, near Penarth and Cardiff on 6th October 1887. From 1901 at the latest, he was raised by his uncle , Thomas Davies, in Llangennech near Llanelly. His family was raised in that area and two of his surviving daughters, Bette and Gwenllian still live in the village. They know little about their father's family. Who was their grandmother? Did she have more children? The family were from that area originally but my great grandfather, John moved to work on the coal ships departing from the Penarth docks. He lived in Cogan where my grandfather was born. All conventional sources fail to provide the usual basic information. A distinct possibility appeared in the 1891 census for Cogan with a widow from Llanelly living in 30 Olive Crescent with a child called Arthur as well as Margaret aged 11 and Isaac aged 9. Regrettably, the 1881 census appeared to rule this out as the father was called John but was listed as being born in Wenvoe. I would be ecstatic should anyone be able to help Thank You
