Walter Brown b 1861 My grandfather James Lumbard Brown (b1890 in Bromley) had a brother Walter (b c1886 in Kent) and sister Lily (b c1888 in Bromley), born of Walter Brown (b c1861 in Scotland) and Elizabeth Hibbert (b1860 in Marylebone). Walter snr first appears in the 1881 England census as a gunner in the RA based at Grand Shaft Barracks in Dover. He married Elizabeth in 1883, still in Dover, and by the 1891 census the family were living in Bromley by Bow. Walter and Elizabeth both died before the 1901 census, leaving 3 orphaned children who were all put into separate orphanages. I'm trying to find Walter in Scotland, and so far I've managed to eliminate most of them. I'm now searching Walter Brown (b1835 in Duns) and Jane Leslie (b1836 in Dryfesdale), hoping that I've found the right parents. If anybody knows anything that matches up with anything I've said, please let me know. I'm also trying to find James' siblings. I don't know what happened to his brother, but I understand his sister ran a guest house/hotel in St Ives, Cornwall. |
