Trying to find Roberts

Walter

Walter Report 26 Jun 2005 18:12

I am looking for any information on the Roberts family whose last entry was in the 1871 census. They were then living in Florist Street in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Father John Roberts was aged 52 and born in Middlesex, was a retired Boot & Shoe Maker. There was no record of a spouse. The rest of the family was:- Edward age 28. Frances Ann age 18. Alfred age 15. William H age 13. Charles age 12. Ernest age 9 Walter Hanson Roberts(Son of Frances Ann) age 11 months. Walter was my grandfather and would appear to have been illegitimate, his father being one of the Hanson family living close by; hence the second christian name. After 1871, there is no record of members of the family, until Frances Ann and my grandfather show up in the 1891 census. Family stories were that my grandfather spent some of his younger life in the USA, in which case, it is reasonable to assume that the family emigrated and only my grandfather and his mother returned to this country. Any information regarding any family member would be very much appreciated.
