Trying to find any information on my Great Grandfather William Joseph Thompson before he left for a new life in Australia. William was born on 30th April 1875 in London. He joined the British Royal Navy at about 16 years old, then came to Australia aboard steamer 'HMAS' Yarrawonga when reaching Port Adelaide in South Australia, he jumped ship. He married Helen McEwen Shaw McElroy on 16th August 1899 in Penola. They lived and raised a family in Penola, South Austrlia. William died in Penola aged 77 years old on 30th August 1952.
