I am trying to trace Joseph Parker, reputedly my wife's maternal Grandfather who lived with her Grandmother Florence Smedley in Navigation St in Leicester in the mid 20s. During that time Florence changed her name to Parker. We think Joseph was born about 1866 and died mid-1920s in Leicester. Their children according to family folklore were Mabel, Lavinia, Joseph, Ivy, Irene Elizabeth (my wife's Mother) and Dorothy, Florence Smedley was his second (wife?). We thought the first 3 or 4 children were from his first marriage. We believe Florence was borne about 1875 in Notts. From birth certs we discover that the 'Father' column is blank for all of the children and their surname was Smedley, apart from Joseph who is shown as Parker-Smedley. Joseph Parker was thought to have been in the American Army in the late 19C. I cannot pinpoint is death cert and can only pin him down for the 5 years at Navigation St. Can anyone help? |
