Trying to find descendents of George ROBERTSON of St Cuthberts (1826-1898) and Jean HAIG (1828 - 1896) who were married in St Cuthberts Edinburgh on 31/10/1851. In 1864, they left Midlothian and moved to the Gateshead area of the Tyne. George was a quarryman. Jean was from Cramond in Midlothian. Jean's sister Christina married and was living in Virginia in 1880. They had the following children: Janet, b 1856, married John CROFTON in 1878 and had Peter (b 1879) and Emily (b1893). Alexander, b 1859, married Edith Mary WRIGHT in 1881 and had Robert b 1884, Margaret b 1886, george b 1889, Ida b 1893, Edith b 1895 and Alexander b 1899. Georgina b 1860 married James TORBET in 1891 and had James Robertson TORBET who was born in 1895. Robert (my gg grandfather) b 1864 and married Ellen MILLER in 1888. They had Isabella, b 1889 and emigrated to Canada c 1910/11. George (my ggrandfather) b 1890 and married Ada ROWE in 1913. Jean Haig b 1891, John b 1893, Ethel b 1895, Robert b 1898 and Arthur b 1900. George b 1865 married Jane BINNING in 1891. They had George in 1893 and Emma in 1894. John b 1870 and married Elizabeth ? and had Jane Haig b 1895/6, Luke b 1896/7 and twins George and John b 1901. Most of them apart from gggrandfather Robert lived around Felling, Gateshead and Heworth. Robert moved to Wallsend in about 1900. Any help in finding those who appear to be related to any of the above would be greatly appreciated. I have reason to believe there may be a connection between my family and smuggler who escaped hanging prior to the Porteous Riot in Edinburgh in 1736. George Robertson who was doing his bit for the Jacobites as far as I know according to family stories! Thanks, Donna GILL (nee ROBERTSON)
