I am interested in any information regarding the name Tweedie Brown. It crops up in my family tree and I have heard of other instances but don't know if these are related in any way. My g.grandmother was a Brown and Tweedie became a family name for the son born whilst his mother was travelling to Manchester , she went into labour at Tweedsmuir, Peebles and the child was named Tweedie. The mother was Margaret Larkin her husband Michael Mcgrath(McGarth) was on his way to join his regiment due to embark for India. he was in the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Nothing more is known about Michael . Margaret remained in Peebles until recovered then leaving the child at the estate where she'd been in service left to join her husband. |
