I am trying to piece together parts of my fathers life that he didn't know too much about as he was lead to believe that his parents died of TB when he was a child. My fathers name is ERNEST WALTER THOMAS, born Poplar Feb 1929, but he sadly died in December 1998. My father married JOAN GILBERT. I have traced details through internet and found that his father was JAMES ROBERT THOMAS who in 1901 was aged 17. I found this out by searching on an address i had 32 ZETLAND STREET, POPLAR. On 31 Mar 1901, five people lived at this address: JOHN ROBERT THOMAS (aged 40, Born Scotland), MARGARET THOMAS (aged 40, Born Orkney), JAMES ROBERT THOMAS(aged 17, Born Poplar, my fathers father), ALEXANDER THOMAS(aged 8, Born Poplar) & GEORGE THOMAS (aged 5, Born Poplar). My fathers mother was MARGARET JANE THOMAS nee COATMAN. My father had brothers/sister, GEORGE THOMAS who still lives in the East End and his sister MARGARET CLEAR nee THOMAS lives in SE London with her son RAYMOND. He always said he had another brother who died young. If anyone can help me put pieces together or anyone feels they are part of this family.... please contact me by email: [email protected] - thanks. |
