Bennett ancestors Manchester / Lancashire. Trying to find links anywhere. My Grandmother May Bennett Born 1879 approx (by mariage cert.). Died approx 1940 - lived Denton, Manchester. Marriage info as follows: Marriage date 31/08/1907, St Mark’s Parish Church, Gorton, Lancashire. She married William Henry Staley - age 28, bachelor, profession – clerk. Address – 24, Great Jones Street. Father - Peter Staley – warehouseman. May Bennett – age 25, spinster, profession – machinist. Address – 36 Great Jones Street. Father – Frank Bennett – mechanic. Possible siblings of May Bennett: 1. Frank m Pru (possibly in Church Eaton). May have lived in Wythenshawe. two children – Frank & Gladys. Gladys committed suicide (possibly by head in gas oven) postnatal depression – had 2 children – a girl & a boy. 2. Ada Bennett m Jack Rogerson lived in Gorton. Possibly RAF regular. Daughter – May (died) 3. Jessie Bennett – burnt in fire, aged about 15. Gr Grandparents (Parents of May) Francis (Frank) Bennett. Probably married a Lucas – possibly Elizabeth. ? Lucas – Elizabeth’s father was remembered as having very white beard. Frank Bennett was apparently a very well known engineer. He was involved in building the Eiffel Tower & Manchester Ship canal. He & his wife went as guests to the opening of The Manchester Ship Canal by Queen Victoria. Went abroad quite a bit – hated Catholics was known to have said, “Get the Pope off the windows” (not sure in what context). There was also a James Bennett (may have been the brother of Francis / Frank) who married Alice. Had a son William. He was married & he died of flu. He had 2 sons who were educated by the Freemasons after their father’s death.
