FRANCES RODWAY HUGHES was my father's mother, born, I believe, some time in the 1880's in south east London, possibly in Camberwell/ Peckham. I was told that she was the daughter of an undertaker and that her father had re-married when she was a child - presumably her mother had died. I believe that she may have had a brother. Perhaps he was a a step brother ? Her middle name. 'Rodway' may have been her mother's maiden name. She married ERNEST BAXTER and they brought up their four sons in Coburg Road (off the Old Kent Road), London SE5. A daughter died in infancy. Frances was also known as ' Fanny' and 'Olive', the latter, in particular, by her sisters-in-law. I'd be very glad to hear from anyone who can shed any light on Frances Hughes and her family. |
