I am tying to trace details of my parenal linage starting with my Grandmother BEATRICE WALKER who was born around 1905 in DONCASTER. Her father was a miner at the DENBEIGH MAINE coal mine and she had 5 brothers/sisters. They emigated to NOVA SCOTIA, Canada around 1906-7 and a further two of her siblings where born in Canada. A brother by the name of SAMUEL WALKER decide that a career in mining wasnt for him and became qualified as an Electrician and decided on life as a Merchant Seaman. On his first voyage the boiler blew up and he was injured - the Captian put him ashore in BERMUDA and sailed off into the sunset leaving him behind. The Governor of Bermuda toured the hospital and visited Sam - on leaning that he was an electrician offered hi a job with the first power station being constructed in Bermuda. Some time later Sam's parents followed him to Bermuda and set up home there. If any one can shed any light - sorry that wasnt meant to be a pun - on Sam or my Grandmother Beatice or indeed her Parents please drop me a line. Thank you |
