BROWN in Yorkshire: My Browns lived in Leeds from 1500-1700 and then moved to Holmfirth area from 1700-1900 where they were employed in the textile mills there. Other surnames associated are: AINSLEY, BARKER, BATTY, CASTLE, FETHERSTONE, GILL, HOLMES, HOYLE, KILBURNE, LAWSON, MATHERS, ROBERTS, TAYLOR, THORP, TURNER, WIMPENNY & WOODHEAD. Towns/places associated in the 1700-1900 period are Wooldale, Totties, New Mill, Birstall, Kirkburton & Upperthong.
