I am trying to find a patience Mary Clarke (nee Ireland) born 1930, in Eton/Windsor area. She was my husbands mother, he was given up for adoption when he was three months old (he was born 27.04.53)At the time of his birth she was living at Royal Crescent, Holland Park London. We found out that she married a Mr. Robert Cecil Clarke in Dec 1958, whilst they were both working at the Portobello Hotel in Walton-on-the-Nae, Essex. We cannot find out if they had any children of their own. I know we have a lot more information about his mother than perhaps other people would who are looking for their birth mother, but we seem to have come to a standstill. If there is anyone who reconises these names, we would be very greatful if you would get in touch. We realise that it was 50 years ago, and being that she was a unmarried mum rin those days was very difficult for her, but my Husband is desperate, to know that she is still alive or if not to know where she is buried. We would treat this very delicately after so many years. I have since found out some more info. I have found the lady who was the owner of the portabello hotel, where they were married from. It states on their marriage certificate that they were both live in staff at the time of their marriage. When I contact this lady she said she had never heard of them. I still feel that there is a reason why I canot find out any more. Whether it is because it was common knowledge that she had a child out of wedlock in the 1950's that she gave up for adoption or was it because her childs father was a black man, both of which would have been frowned on in those days. If anyone can help with any info however small please contact me. Time is running out as she would not be in her 70's. Many thanks Thanks you, Sue Riggs T |
