Another message for HORACE BENNETT: Railway Staff. I have checked PROCAT and it appears that the Public Record Office have many details of the Railway companies in the period you are interested in - they have them catalogged in class RAIL. But beware...there are thousands of them. I have also found a reference to a book titled 'Railway Ancestors - a guide to the Staff Records' by D.T. Hawkings and published by Sutton in 1995 so it may pay you to borrow that from your local library if you can. The next thing you probably need to do is to work out which Railway Company he was likely to have been employed by - at one time there were over 1000 Railway Companies! Once you know that then it will be easier to access the correct records. Good luck ! Simon.
