HI, Could someone please take a fresh look at this please to see if I'm missing something blatantly obvious. OK this lady enters a Will, below....she was probably born about 1817 going by the bmd entry in 1891. Will Index 1891 Will with codicial - Mary Anne Edmondson late of Grange, Windermere, Westmorland , widow, died 6 Jan 1891 at Windermere. Probate Carlisle 29 Feb to Matthew Hedley, 9 Pall mall, Middlesex, gentleman, Thomas Edmondson, Essex Lodge, Knowlsey Rd, Southport, Lancs, gentleman nephew. Robert Holt Edmondson, Holme, Golborne, Newton le Willows, gentleman nephew. William Banks, 42 Lune St, Preston, lancs, solicitor. Effects £ 25,400 5s 8d Ok, now I know Robert Holt Edmondson & Thomas are sons of James Edmondson c1808 Lytham - died Wilmslow 1883 and Jane Hogg of Chorlton, Preston and finally Hole Hird, Westmorland. I am assuming by naming patterns that brothers so far to james were Richard 1805 Lytham married Margaret Newall, William 1807 Lytham married Martha, Holt 1809 Lytham married Fanny. I'm having a problem finding out who Mary Ann was married to. History, Topography & Directory of Westmorland, 1885 Mrs Mary Ann Edmondson, Holehird, Applethwaite township. Miss Edmondson, The Grange 1894 It seems that Jane & Susan, 2 sisters of the men above lived in the Grange in 1901, so maybe Mary Anne had no children. Who did she marry, any thoughts? Have you found Mary Ann in 1881...... and then in previous census until you find her married to a Mr Edmondson.? She could be a 2nd wife. Gwyn

Mary Ann's death certificate would name her husband ie. widow of........ Gwyn

Yes true Gwyn, That will have to wait for the penny jar emptying session though. Pam, surely with so many children The Grange would have transferred to a closer next of kin than her nieces.

Could be Pam but I'm not sure. All the family were involved in calico printing and textiles but whether Mary or her husband were I've no idea. Is there a way to search on address or does anyone have more directories to narrow down when she lived in The Grange?

In the 1851 there's a John & Sarah born c1813 Lytham , he's a silk mercer? and draper , employer, would this be connected to calico printers?

Here is Rebecca in 1861 Looks like Mary Ann's details match..... so her husband would seem to be James, - a woollen manufacturer. James is'nt in Kendal in 1851 though is he Gwyn?

Hmm Gwyn, It's certinaly a possibility although James's birthplace of Kendal does not follow with the earlier Lytham born sons, of course that could indicate that later children were born in Westmorland not Lancs. The problem I've got is locating the father of these sons, he was supposedly a Minister from Lytham but presumably died before 1841 or was swallowed up in Wrexham somewhere when Holt Edmondson, his grandson moved and married there. We don't really know as Holt Edmondson jnr disappears after the death of his father Holt in 1874, so the chain of information is broken. It's hard work this one!
