Hi again Penelope I have a relative who am I trying to trace back through the censuses. His name is William Francis Howitt and his birth is listed in 1874 on freebmd. He is present on the 1901 as born in Peterborough, with wife Ada and daughter Elsie and his profession is a butcher. However, I cannot find him on the 1881, but there is a Francis Howitt whose birth tallies and Dad was a butcher. I was wondering whether you would be able to find him on the 1891 for me so that I can see in there is a match with the 1881. Thanks Anna

Hi Pen, I've drawn a blank and maybe your fresh eyes can find things I can't! I'm looking for the following Chorltons (as detailed on the 1881 census in Manchester - RG11/3937) - William, Catherine, James, William & Thomas (J (John) Thomas on the 1891 census). Only William & Catherine are on the 1901 census, suggesting the offspring have left home - but where have they gone?! Also looking for birth, death or marriage notices for all but specifically for John Thomas Chorlton (or Thomas/Tom as it seems he may have been known). Anything you can find would possibly solve a mystery in my family - thanks!

Hi Pen, Re the previous enquiry about George Parkins Snr....I've checked George Parkins Jnrs marriage certificate and it shows GHP Snr's occupation to be a Foreman Platelayer......does this help any? Also did you have any luck in finding Fanny Sophia White....then Parkins....ending up as Long? Fingers crossed. Thanks Donna x

Me again Pen! Just had a thought. I seem to remember Sally saying that on Fanny's headstone it reads the name Fanny Sophia Parkins Long....I don't know when George Henry Parkins Snr died but I wonder if by 1901 she was Fanny Long? Would you mind having a look, George Junior would be about 7 by then. Thanks everso. Donna x

Donna

Donna Report 14 Jul 2006 15:57

Hi Pen, Thanks for looking. Are they on 1891 as a couple pre George Junior? George Junior was a steam crane driver don't know if he followed George Snr into that....might be worth a try re occupation. Fingers crossed that you might find Fanny Parkins. Cheers Donna x p.s. As it's Sally's (new found GR cousin) direct family I'll let her order the cert & fingers crossed it's clear on there....unfortunately she's on hols for 3 weeks...argh!

Added by Donna Strowger on 12/07/2006 22:57:48 Hi Pen, You've helped me previously and I'm really hoping you can help with this little lot. We (my new found GR cousin and I) are looking for the following family, here's all we know about them and we'd really like some help please. George Henry Parkins DOB & POB currently unknown Fanny Sophia White DOB probably circa 1863 as she died in 1948 aged 85....according to family information. POB unknown. What I do know is that their marriage was registered in the 4th Quarter of 1882 in Uxbridge - as per Ancestry. They had a son George Henry Parkins Jnr born circa 1893. He married in Edinburgh on 16/1/1915 and stated his age to be 21 at that time. I have yet to trace this family in 1901 and, indeed, before that date. I have checked Scotlandspeople and there are no George Parkins in the 1901 census, or George Perkins, just in case the transcriber got it wrong with the change in accent....no Fanny Parkins/Perkins either for that matter. Thank you for reading this. All the best Donna *************************************************************************** Not having much luck with this one. I think the only logical thing to do would be to purchase their marriage cert, that way we can find out the fathers names and their occupations, which will narrow down our search. Pen x Just looking at a possible for Fanny at mo.
