GenieAngel Report 21 May 2006 08:10

Hi Jane, Here we go, the first one I have should be relatively easy, the other should present a challenge!!! :~) Both could be mistranscribed as SMALL. Grrrrrr!!! Could you please look up in the 1851 and 1861 census: 1) Morton Alfred SMALE b ca 1848 Marylebone, London. Could you please try to find George in the 1871, 1891 and 1901 2) George John SMALE b 1842 Bermondsey, London I am told he was a boot buyer and was at age 36 living on his owns means and his wife Mary was a boot buyer. I have not been able to find him at all. Alicia x

Margaret Report 21 May 2006 04:37

Jane, Would be grateful if you can find this family in 1851. HARWOOD William (born 1811 or 1816 re the 1861 and 1871 census) Eliza born c1828 William born c1845 1861 and 1871 have them all being born in London area and living in Hackney. William Sr was a plumber. Also looking for the above Eliza in 1841 too. She wasn't married then, so her name was Eliza DYE. Many thanks. Margaret

Jane Report 20 May 2006 20:44

William, no problem, have an image for you already................. just need that address....................................... Jx ps, do you know the years of births for the other children? i believe i have found Harry in 1875, but thats it................ and........... when you say you want 1871 and afterwards, which way do you want me to go, up to 1901, or back to 1841, lol think thats it now, he he

Wulliam Report 20 May 2006 20:23

Hi Jane, many thanks for the kind offer. I am looking for a family in 1871 and/or afterwards: I don't know the parents. Children were Toni, Annie, Hannah Catherine, Harry & Jennie SLEIGHT. Hannah Catherine was born c1866. They were almost certainly in Lincolnshire - possibly Gainsborough. If you find them then I would be most grateful for images - I'll pm my email address if that is OK with you. Kind regards, William

Jane Report 20 May 2006 19:16

Denise, have had another good look for you, but i swear they are not in the country !!!!!! thought it might help looking for a different birthplace , but no. only thing i can try now is wife Alice, have obviously tried searching for her, but it might be better if i knew her age and birthplace too, have tried baby Alice, that didnt work either ! Jx

Jane Report 20 May 2006 18:43

Hi again Tracy, sorry chick........... i don't think there is anything that will tell you exactly where someone works, all you can go on is census, but that will only tell you occupation, not exactly where they work ( unless you're lucky and were at work when census was taken, lol) and obviously have to wait in 10 yr gaps !! there are also the business directories, but they don't show the employees either sorry :O(( Jane x

Jane Report 19 May 2006 23:11

Denise, sorry.......... bad news, think your lot has joined mine & Lynettes missing persons list too................ tried searching with the 2 Alices but still nothing i'm afraid think i'm losing my touch, lol Jane

Lynette Report 19 May 2006 22:58

Thanks for looking jane i had the info you have so i will have to make do with that for the time being. Thanks again Lynette

Jane Report 19 May 2006 22:50

Lynette, they have gone completely off the face of the earth !!!!!!! lol, did find these though, apologies if you already have them: Births Sep 1897 --------------------------- Padmore Charles Wolverhampton 6b 571 Births Jun 1891 ------------------------ Padmore Harriet Wolverhampton 6b 599 Marriages Mar 1912 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Padmore Harriet Mayes Wolverhampton 6b 669 Deaths Sep 1910 ---------------------------- Padmore Jemima 39 Wolverhampton 6b 261 but honestly ,was searching for them just using 1st 3 letters of first name only, and still nothing that fits. they must have gone off with my lot that avoided the census every year !!!!!! sorry Jane

Lynette Report 19 May 2006 22:37

Hi this family are proving to be a pain to trace. William and jemima were both born 1870 i have their certificates. However from 1870-1891 william cant be traced at all, but his wife i found lots. I have them on the 1891 census living in graiseley passage with their daughter sarah, but they dasappear again on the 1901. charles and harriet are william and jemimas children but im a little unsure of their dates of births, due to lack of census or certificates. Hope this is of help lynette

Jane Report 19 May 2006 22:30

Lynette, now have had a look for this family on 1901 and earlier census' and all i can come up with is William b. 1867 , Wolverhampton in 1871 & 1881. i am a little confused as to what relation they are to each other, are they brother & sisters, married, who's children are Harriet & Charles??? if you could shed any light on this matter for me, i'll have another look for you..... Jx UPDATE , now realise Sarah Ann is daughter but b 1890 , not 1870 as you told me lol, having found them in 1891, so still looking for 1901 be right back

Jane Report 19 May 2006 22:19

Denise, the only John Barrett i can see was born abt 1870 in Stepney and was a geneal labourer................ do you know of any other relatives or who he might be with so i can try and match them with him too? Jane x

Lynette Report 19 May 2006 21:46

Lucy Report 17 May 2006 23:00

Thanks Jane

Jane Report 17 May 2006 22:29

Lucy......................... i have just gone through all the John James b. 1864, on the ENGLISH 1901 to have a look at the occupation ( you can't view it on Ancestry like you can on 1901)as that was all i had to go on, and failed miserably, had the brainwave to actually look on 1901 site to see where he was born / living, and found him to be in the WELSH census !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO, after all that this is who he is with: 165............. ter. John James abt 1864 Pasnan, Cardiganshire, Wales Boarder Swansea Glamorgan WIDOWER, SHIPS CARPENTER Margaret Phillips abt 1846 Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales Wife Swansea Glamorgan Thomas Phillips abt 1847 Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales Head Swansea Glamorgan

Lucy Report 17 May 2006 20:03

Hi - I wonder if you can help I'm trying to find a John James who was a ship carpenter. I have found him on the 1901 census (he was 37) but I wondered if you could tell me who he was living with, so I can check it is him. As you can imagine there are a lot of John James' on the census! Thanks in advance Lucy

Jane Report 17 May 2006 18:39

Hi Liz, right this one looks promising : 1841 Bedford General Infirmary David Teagle abt 1813 St Mary Bedfordshire (not born in county !!) but obviously no family with him !! again after some detective work, found George was in Middlesex in 1861, and his children were born there in the 40's, so checked Middlesex for him........... George Teagle abt 1809 St Marylebone Middlesex (born out of county) wasn't with any other Teagles though :o( but still no sign of James or Robert in either 41 or 51 i'm afraid...... Sorry.... Jx
