I wish I'd known you had the info on the son.........I could have saved a lot of time. As you referred to him as Paul in your message, it seemed that you didn't. It does help if all the info is posted................. Rose

Hi again Tracy, Women often took on the name of their partner for proprietry reasons when they were not married. It would have been very embarrassing to admit to the registrar when registering a baby that tthey were unmarried, and therefore the baby was illegitimate. And the registrar would have no reason to disbelieve what he was told as they were not required to supply proof of marriage. Liz x

Tracy has sent me pm to the effect that Henry and Mary had a son called Paul Jewell Tapper in 1864, but she has not found them on any census. Does anyone else want to join in with ideas? I have checked familyrellies 1866 onwards for a marriage and drawn a blank. Have also checked ancestry pre-1866 but nothing there either. Am awaiting to see if Tracy has trawled 1837 already. Liz x

I can't see anything on ancestry. Where have you looked already? Have you located them on any censuses? Liz x

That is a long timeframe to be looking - it will use up lots of credits to look quarter by quarter. Do you know if they had children? Liz x
