Dawn, do your records cover the Sleat on the island of Skye? Allan Macdonald born about 1804 and married to Ann Macdonald born about 1830 had a daughter Eliza who died aged 34. Do you have their marriage certificate with their parents on it or any of the details about their other children? Thanks Marion

Hi Dawn Thank you so much for the info on Robert Reid/Jane Craig Robert would have been my Gr Grandad. I don't know how many children he would have had I know he had James but what confuses me according to James's marriage in 1886 he was 45 having been a widower when he married my Gran(Catherine Laird) That would have made his birth date as 1841 Parents on Cert Robert/Reid-Jane Craig? Help Thanks Mary

Cannot find great grandfathers birth on OPR on Scotland's people site but found his marriage & death. Found the family on the 1841 census: Hamilton Currie b. 1814 (age 27 on census) born in Scotland. Sarah Begley b. 1817? Ireland) Children MaryAnn 8, James 6, Hamilton 5, Felix 1 (my g. g/f) and Agnes 6 mths, all as per census for Greenock. I also found the family in the trade directory at that time but not in later ones. The baptism of the two youngest children is shown in the Catholic Church records in Greenock but no trace of any marriage - the children are shown as 'lawful'. In Felix's 1863 marriage certificate his father is shown as jeweller deceased, and Felix's address is Main Street,Glasgow which makes me think that the family moved to Glasgow. I also tried to find deaths but only found Felix in 1897. I think there is a story behind the Hamilton & Sarah. There is a jumbled family tale about someone being run out of Ireland barefoot and I wonder if it's them as Sarah was only 16 ? when she had her first child. I'm hooked on unravelling the story but I'm stuck at present so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dawn: Thanks for the offer. According to a family bible there was a marriage between James Robertson and Mary Kane (Kean), May 23, 1868. she was also known as Mary Wilson. I believe the wedding would take place in the Midlothians. He was born jan.11,1832 in Stichill, Roxburgh, Scotland. She was born in Ireland, thats all I know about her. Anything you can find on them would be greatly appreciated. Regards Shiela

Dawn Trying to trace my Gr Grandfather Robert Reid Married a Jane Craig I would assume he was born around 1816. Unfortunately both parents had died the time my Grandfather got married. which was in 1886, as he him self was a widower I do have Grandad Marriage record,He would have been born in 1841. But it only gives the names of Robert/Jane deceased. Thanks a lot Dawn Regards Mary
