I have got a copy of Richard Lee birth cert showing mother was Charlotte and father was Henry or Harry. birth date 13 may 1858 Willoughby in district of Spilsby. I have been unable to trace Charlotte & Harry/Henry back any further. Richard married Maria Tong in June 1885. If anyone can help would be greatly appreciated.

... and it seems that Ancestry, for the 1861 census, have mistranscribed Richard (aged 2) and his mother's place of birth, which should be Sloothby, a village just outside Willoughby and close to Spilsby.

thanks, my problem is that on Richards birth cert it states Henry/harry (hard to read) as his father and charlotte as his mother. I have found the same info as you guys as well and am confused as to why fathers name changes??? is it the same family or a different one. everything else seems to match but the fathers name. unless henry/harry died before 1861 census and charlotte remarried???

There is a Henry Lee born in Toynton on the 1851 census in the same family as the Richard Lee with Charlotte on the 1861 census.
(Added 11/9/07 - I mean I am assuming so, since both claim to be born in Toynton, and there are very few named either Richard or Henry Lee of the right age in this area of Linc).
There is also a marriage between Henry Lee and Charlotte Fawcett in the Horncastle district in the Oct-Dec q'r 1853. Between Jul 1858 and Mar 1860 there were deaths of a Henry Lee registered in Holbeach, Stamford and Caistor, so your theory certainly looks possible.

What is Henry/Harrys occupation from his sons birth cert or marriage cert?

Hi Margaret,

Sorry, had gone away from computer for a while.

I'd been looking at a family Richard and Elizabeth Lee who are at Bilsby in 1841 (Henry aged 9 and Richard aged 5), and then the same family at Wrangle in 1851 (no Richard, but Henry is there aged 18).

The father is a wheelwright in 1841, and a journeyman carpenter in 1851. Henry is an Ag Lab in 1851.

I'm not tracing the family myself, and do not hold any certificates, sorry.

Hi Ivy.
Sorry for this confusion. Since Genes has stopped adding surnames.

Im not the Margaret who owns the thread but the other one asking the thread owner Margaret what the fathers occupation is from the birth cert she has..

Regards the other Margaret
