Find Ancestors

Hi everyone,
I seem to have come to a blank!
My great greandfather was Daniel Wood b1903 in Cranford, London and married Evelyn Lawrence b1905.

I am trying to find Daniel's parents and just wondered if anyone could suggest any ideas about how to find him? Obviously he's not included in the census so don't know where else to look.

Cranford is near/in Hounslow & I believe that Hounslow's registration district is Staines, therefore the most likely birth is:

You are going to need a birth cert but I would suggest that first you get his marriage cert to show his Dad's name.
That way when you order a birth cert you can ask them to cross check to make sure it's the correct one

The birth certificate arrived today for Daniel Charles Wood.
It has his father down as Arthur Charles Wood and mother was Mary Wood (previously Osbourne)
I've searched and searched and I can't find anything on them in the census.
Can you help?

Here ya go -- slight spelling variation which I anticipated, so I searched at

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

for marriages
1890 to 1905
Wood, Arthur
to Mary

and then scanned down the list and checked out the Arthur Charles-s first.

Before ordering the certificate you need to find that entry at FreeBMD and check the image to make sure that everything is transcribed correctly. I'd order it in Arthur's name only.

Danged if I can find 'em in a census either, looking quickly in Kent and anywhere else.

But the marriage certificate will give you ages and father's names, so you should be able to start in 1891, once you have it.

But just to repeat Claire's caveat -- are you sure that is your Daniel Wood's birth certificate? His own marriage certificate would show his father's name, just for confirmation.

The marriage doesn't seem to be transcribed yet, so you'd have to find it in the untranscribed GRO pages. If you don't have access and you have at least a close approximation for the date, one of us could find it for you.
