Trying to find Martin

Charles and Sarah Martin

I am trying to find my dad's grandfather or any of his relations. My dad's father was named Bertie Martin but everyone knew him as Jim and he lived in Edmonton London. His wife was Nellie Giddings. Bert's siblings were Albert? (who was killed in 1941 on board the HMS Kelly in Crete), May, Alice and Jack (that's all I have found so far). Bert's father Charles John Martin was listed on his marriage certificate as being deceased so I am unsure of when he died.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me.
Thank you.
regards
Lydia

Lucky Karen found that record -- you gave no dates at all, Lydia, and I would have been guessing a whole generation younger for someone killed in WWII.

for a Charles John Martin marriage to a Sarah at

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

(assuming that he used his full name when he married) there is only this one:

Marriages Mar 1893
Martin Charles John St. Olave 1d 372
Perkins Sarah Ann St. Olave 1d 372

That would be consistent with a son said to be 47 when he died in 1941.

Not having much luck finding them in the 1901 census -- there's a Charles Hen. Martin (Ancestry calls him Charles Ken Martin) with wife Sarah in Southwark St George the Martyr, but no kids, and that's the closest I see -- and have to dash right now; may take another shot at it tomorrow if no one else has!

Aha, Karen's still on the job, you don't need me!

My grandad Bertie William Martin was born 4.9.1910 in Edmonton London. Dad seems to think Berts brother who died in the war was born about 1902 but we are unsure of that (we are only guessing). My grandad was known to most people as Jim Martin instead of by his real name of Bertie Martin.
BW Martin (my grandad) was married in 1932 and his father was listed on the marriage cert as being deceased at that time. It could have been that Charles John Martin was older when my grandfather was born and that would explain why he was deceased at the time of my grandads marriage.
I guess the only thing I can do it send over there for a copy of my grandads birth cert and hope it has some details on it that would help me.
So far I have been trying to search for my dad's fathers side of the family for just over a year now with not much luck.
I truly appreciate the help you have all given me.
kindest regards
Lydia
I have a photo of Sarah Martin but I have no idea of when she died.

Four months?!

I'm in Canada, and it takes two weeks.

I think I've heard something about recent delays, but four months seems a bit much. You ordered from the GRO?

Your credit card was charged?

I'd do some follow-up and find out what's happening!

Yes I ordered from GRO and our credit card was charged.
I gave all the details I could about my grandad.
I shall find the receipt number when I get home and chase them up.
Thank you for your help.
