Evan Davies was my Granddad, but sadly died before I was born.

The only information I have on Evan is that when he married in 1918 his age was down as 30 yrs a bachelor , was a miner but now a driver for the ASC in Lewisham Kent. His father was John, a General Labourer and .deceased.
After many months of following a certain Davies family in London, I was shocked to find that when I applied for Evan's death certificate his age was added by a further 20 years, this I did not think was correct, so I contacted the Registra office where it was confirmed this was indeed my Grand dad and my Uncle was present when he died.

I eventually spoke to some older cousins, also one of my dad's cousins and they confirmed that indeed Evan was a lot older than my Gran, and even older than his father in law!

So all information gathered was incorrect!
So please Santa can you help with this brick wall, as I would love to trace my dad's side of the family?

Evan Davies born about 1868 in Wales,Died 1948 age 80yrs . Father John.
.

These names might help, his daughters were called Irene, and Kathleen, sons Edward John, William Frank and Eric George, I have named these just incase they might have been named after his family members.

What I do know is that when one of his sons married in 1947 in Hertfordshire, in the group photos, there is a woman of slight build and I would say I am 99% certain she was Evan's sisiter as the resembelance is outstanding

This has been my aim since 2003, and still not been achieved.

Someone might just be able to help or shed any information.

Thank you one and all

chances are, if he was 50 when he married your Gran, that he'd been married before.

Thank you so much Minnie and Kate for your response, firstly I have wondered if Evan had been maried before, maybe his wife died and he was classified as a bachelor, as 50 years old and a bachelor in those days was not common, I also think maybe he married in Wales a local girl, this is only guess work. and why would he lie about his age?

I wonder how I can find his army record without his details is it possible, as Im sure in 1918 as a Driver with the ASC there should not be that many Evan Davies's in London?.

Kate re census, wow I wonder if this might be the start of my brickwall crumbling? next stage how do I prove any of this or where else can I find any extra information.

You two have given me a much need boost , maybe 2008 will be the year to solve my Grandad's family line

Thank you so much, any information very much appreciated

I got your PM Susan.

Please can you say where he married in 1918 and who to as there are a few Evan Davies marriages then..Were any of the witnesses Davies family?

If you only have that he was born Wales then you can not be certain which county he was born really and Evan Davies with father John as Labourers in Wales as a country abound a little..
Or did/do any of his children or their children know for certain where he was born...

Have you found him on 1911?
Or for 100% certain on any census?
