my father in law was born in southampton. whilst he was in the merchant navy he visited a family in south africa who we think was gwen fry.Although his mother was called Florence Jones he used to talk of a connection with a "JONES JAM " in South Africa which may have been some relation to Henry Jones of Tasmania. There are still 3 members of the family we are yet to trace Dorothy Bessie and Ernest Jones all born in hampshire england
One of them may have married into the Fry family which had some connection to Henry Jones
Confused yet!! Can you help

Have you had a google search? Is Jones Jam a company the family owned?

Yes it was - have a look here, if you havent already: or just google Sir Henry Jones.

Hi Heather
As I said my father in law used to visit South Africe during thr 1920's and 1930's as he was in the merchant navy.He used to talk of a family there who had a Jam factory. From another member of the family we think this may be IXL JAM which was owned by Sir Henry Jones of Tasmania. He was born in 1862 so If this was the right family it must be one of his children or grandchildren The only name we have is Gwen Fry who another member of the family visited in Durban during WW2.She has married since then so we have very little to go on.I have searched ancestry co with no luck and the biography of Henry didn't help. There was a web site in tasmania which gave his children but I have been unable to make any connection.
