Always a good idea, and so cheap. ;)

Many thanks Kathryn I will wait a little before starting to buy yet more certificates. I have asked a cousin up in Cumbria to try and find out more from older family members.

Oh, I do so hate private messages about info in threads!

Brian says:

Thanks for the reply. I have the tree prior to 1901 but this part of the family is unknown as to what happened to the children, did they have children etc...
I know head of house died 1950 in Bolton from family notes from a cousin but nothing else.

What I meant was Evan, Jack and Maud, who may well have died 1894-2005 -- but if you don't know their birthdates, identifying their births in the records, to find out, would probably be next to impossible with those names!. Ditto marriages, no matter how long you trawled through the GRO.

Three Jack Davies-s born in 1909 -- two with the same birthdates! -- have died since 1984.

Ah, one thing though -- Maud was born post 1911 and you have her mother's name:

Name: Maud Davies
Year of Registration: 1914
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's Maiden Name: Sewell
District: Bolton
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 929

You could get that cert so you had her exact DOB and then check the death index by given name and DOB alone, even without knowing her married surname.

Other than that, cross your fingers for family to join GR, and best of luck.

Hi Brian -- if you have their exact birthdates, and they survived to, but died after, 1984, it might be possible to identify their deaths in the index that is searchable e.g. at Ancestry. A death certificate could then provide some info about family.

If you don't have access to the database, someone here could do the search quickly.

Looking for any information or decendants of Samuel George Davies born 1875 Dowlais Glamorgan and wife Jane (nee SEWELL) born 1877 Whitehaven Cumbria, marrried in 1900 in Cumbria but moved to Bolton Lancashire prior to the 1901 census.

Had children Evan born 1902 Bolton, Jack born 1909 Bolton and Maud born 1914 Bolton.

Evan married Minnie LOMAX in Bolton in 1926.

Jack married Norah BIRTWISTLE in Bolton in 1932

Maud married James H BOYCE in Bolton in 1941.

Any links to the above most welcome.

Thankyou
