Helen, if you specify her fathers name youd have only lost £3. |

Sorry, it is Maria who is showing as Emma Turner. I received another birth certificate today for another of her children and it also states her as Emma. |

Sorry, just struck me - take it you couldnt find a suitable birth registration on freebmd? I assumed you had looked and not found one as it wasnt compulsory til 1875. |

Yes saw that one which is why I queried the birth being in Southwark. Then when we were told Edward was a mariner, I discounted it on two counts, wrong birth place and wrong occupation. This guy is a carman. But here are the details anyway (lot older than wife) |

Thanks Heather, never thought of that. I don't know her mothers name and am hoping the death cert will tell me. |

But it says Southwark as her place of birth in 1881. Dont worry, Im sure it will come to light :) It may be dad died when she was very young and mum remarried and so she appears under a different surname? |

Hi Heather, no I can't find her as a child. She only seem to show from when she married Geroge Gosling. They married in 1878 and she shows up on the 1881 census. There is no one alive who knows anything about her. |
