I believe my Grandmother (Annie Scott) and Her sister (Kate) may have gone into the St. Anns Catholic Orphanage 8, Alpha Road Marylebone in 1877. However I can't find any information about it. I've tried the LMA, Westminster Archives and The Catholic Childrens Society but none of them has any information. I wonder if anyone out there knows anything about it.

Its certainly listed in Frys guide to charities: Slightly different addy to you though.

ST. ANN'S CATHOLIC ORPHANAGE, 24, Alpha-road, Regent's park . For poor girls.

Have a google and find out the nearest catholic church to it (St Anns??) and then email them to ask if they know of any records.

I have found Kates birth and seen her on the 1881 census. Its really Annie I'm trying to find and I thought if I could find some records of the orphanage it might help me to find Annies birth. Until I find her birth I dont even know if Kate is her sister. I found a family of Scotts on the 1871 census, mother Kate and children Ann and Kate, Father deceased. Thanks for your help.

Also thanks to Heather Posi. I will try Church of Our Lady in St. Johns Wood. You never know.

Hello again Christine
Going by the ages given on Annies Marriage and death certs. and census she was born in 1863 in St. Johns Wood. Her full name was Annie Norah Scott.
However there is a mystery. She had 6 children. I have all their birth certs. On all of them except 1 she was Annie Norah Russell formerly Scott. On the other one she was Annie Norah Russell formerly Webb. That was the only one registered by the father.
I did find a birth of Annie Norah Webb in 1863 but she was born in Chelsea and the father was George. On Annies marriage cert she gave her fathers name as Thomas Scott deceased.
I'll try the Catholic Library. If I could find some records it might give a bit of background to the family.

Hi Christine

I have written to the Catholic Family History Society so see what that brings. I can't find Annie in the 1881 census. She married in 1886 and her place of residence on the marriage cert. was St. Mary and St. Michaels RC Church St. George in the East, which is where she married.
I imagine she was in service there. How can I find who was living at the church in the 1881 census.
