I am trying to do my family tree but my grandmother's side is going nowhere, her name was Lily Hargreaves NEE CARTER and was born Jan 1921 Died Aug 1996, She was married to John William Hargreaves, Lily's parents were father Carter possibly Joe I have no dates or anything and mother I have no idea about, Lily has/had 4 other siblings, they were Don, Joe, Madge and Renie. I have no idea where to go to get anymore help with this, I live in New Zealand so hard to get any answers other than Internet, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Nicky. I hope the information I have traced will prove to be correct. You will need to purchase at least two copies of certificates which will cost £7.sterling each, available from either the G.Records Office.Southport. or from Wakefield Registrar's.

I have found a marriage July/Sept. Qtr. 1941. Wakefield. vol 9c 118.
John William Hargreaves to Maiden name Carter.

Possible birth.
Lily Carter. 1921. Jan/March Qtr. reg in Wakefield. vol 9c 50. Mothers maiden name Knighton.

Possible marriage of Joseph Carter to Lilian Knighton. 1908. Oct/Dec Qtr. reg in Bath. Somerset. vol 5c 1210.

Copy of the marriage certificate for Lily will give her Father's name and occupation.

Copy of the birth certificate will give both parents, and Mothers Maiden name.

If these agree with the details I have given then a copy of the marriage cert for Lilian and Joseph will give their ages, their Father's names and occupations and witnesses who may be siblings.

After these three certificates it should be possible to find much more from Census records, but you need to prove the details first.
