After a couple of months of giving up on my search i have decided to try again but still to no avail. I'm trying to find info on my ggg grandfather James Turner. I have plenty of info on him after he came out to australia but everywhere i turn i hit a brick wall when it comes to finding anything on his family before he came out. His australian marraige and death certificates state that he was born in Kensington, Middlesex around 1822, son of James Turner and Harriet Griffith/s. Even with this info i can't seem to find anything. Would love to know if he had any siblings and any other info on his parents. Can anyone help me please?

Kind Regards
Lee

Have been having a look for you. When did he come into Australia and into what state?
How old was he when he came to Australia?
What was his wifes name?
What where his childrens names?
I did find a James and Harriet Turner in Surrey who had a son James 1822 and a daughter Johanna 1823/4 Saint Mary, Newington, surrey batch no C055631 which is only 4 miles from Kensington
Hope this is helpful

Hi Gay,
James' death certificate states he was in Australia ( Victoria) for 30 years so he would have come over about 1853 at the age of 31. The death certificate says his father's profession was an engineer but the marriage certificate has his father's profession as something else that i can't make out properly( possibly says Baker) it also states that James jnr was the engineer but death certificate says labourer. Sound confusing? it does to me.

He married Mary Ann Eliza Spencer in Geelong, Victoria in 1869. They had 8 children all born in victoria.
William James Turner b 1870
Harriet Emma Turner b 1871
Christopher Herbert Turner b 1873
Thomas Henry Turner b 1875
Francis Woolgrove Turner b 1877
James Turner b 1879
Edwin Charles Turner b 1881
Edith Mary Turner b1882

Another member of genes also sent me that birth record in surrey today so i'll definately look into that. I was also sent another IGI record today that has a James Binnington Turner born in 1822 and christened in Holborn with the father named as James Turner but no mother, along with 2 siblings Elizabeth Ann( christened in holborn aswell) and William( christened in kensington) with parents names James Turner and Harriet.
It is all very confusing for at the moment, don't know which direction to turn.

Thanks for your info. much appreciated
Kind Regards

Thanks for the nudge carol :)

Thanks Linda but unfortunately that family doesnt match up for me as the parents James and Harreit would be older than that as the son James was born in 1822.
Thankyou for trying to help me though.

Hi Pam,
Have that record already which i'm trying to look into more. Not sure if it's a fit though as James's marriage and death certificates state that he was born in Kensington but if they moved to kensington when he was young i guess it could be a possibility that he would say that was his birth place, but who knows at this point in time>
Thanks for your help.

Hi Valerie,
Thankyou for that.
The age and occupation seems to fit the James i'm looking for, so maybe from this i may be able to track him through the parish records and see where it takes me.
Thankyou very much.
