Find Ancestors

Hi,
i waited for what seems ages for my grandads marriage certificate, only to be still stuck, as i cannot seem to find anything.
I am looking for my Grandad Walter James Turner, who was married in 20.1.1920 to Annie Charlotte Bashford, St Pancras London, certificate has them living at 8, Little Randolph Street, NW, and his father as Robert Turner desceased (Waterside Labourer).
I know about Annie, but cannot seem to find either Walter or his Father Robert. i know that Walter was from London area.
any help or ideas please, and getting really frustrated as this is second certificate i have sent for on this couple of people already, and i am on a tight budget.

i think this is possibly him in Fulham, as far as i know they were from Kentish Town area, which isnt a million miles from Fulham, but cannot seem to find Walter or Robert on the census!

could this be a possible, Alice his mother is a widow.

who were the witnesses at there wedding.

Witnesses at the wedding were Minnie Platt and John Tuvey

everything else matches except his birth date, he was born 14th November and if he was 21 when he married in 1920, he must of been 21, nov 1919 so was born nov 1898

You can't completely rely on age given on the marriage cert.

Youcan order a birth cert giving father's name and birth date as a checking point and if it's not the correct one they refund part of the money.

The birth reg found in Fulham seems very likely as he could have been registered Q1 1900 as you had 6 weeks to register the birth.

Have trawled through the complete birth indexes, and unfortunatly, there is no births for Walter James Turner in 1897,98,99, but the one in 1894 on the complete index is : Turner Walter James - Fulham- 1a 283.
So unless he is telling porky`s on his marriage certificate, they did back then??

By the way. the one in 1894 is the 4th Quarter, so it ties in with the 14th Nov

thanks for that, but i still have my doubts as to whether this is him, as they normally lied to appear older on there marriage certificate, not younger that would have made him 26 and as both of there fathers were dead, cannot see the point. also going by his death this would make him the wrong age.
completely baffled now.
someone did ask earlier for the marriage witnesses but not sure what difference that would make.

Walter James Turner registered Mar quarter 1900 Fulham which is the one in the 1901 census with mother Alice. He could have lied about his age to avoid needing parental consent to marry.

The 1900 birth is the one I meant, I year out is nothing.

As you know the birth date, it can be used as a checking point.

The marriage witnesses would be asked for to maybe see if a sibling of his was one of them and therfore make him easier to identify.

Sorry! Not the same one. The census one is Walter John Turner born Lewisham. Could still be the Fulham birth.
