Hi,can anyone in Canada assist in tracing Robert Turner b1854 Northumberland. I have found an entry in the passenger lists for 12 May 1906 on the "Tunisian" under the name with his occupation as coal miner,(he was a mine owner with his brother in England) the age is right and his final destination is Winnipeg. He is supposed to have sailed after losing his wife and two children in a short length of time through illness. Any connections ???? Also his son James and nephew John, again on the "Tunisian" 1910 list the names appear ,the ages are not correct but this could be deliberate, they are listed as farm workers destination Ontario. Margaret Turner is listed on the same vessel in 1917 destination British Columbia possibly to marry. Any information gratefully received !!!!

Gwyn - I'm not sure what subscriptions you've got, nor if I'm following the right guys.
You can access images for Margaret's finds as follows:
Start at the LAC gateway: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html
you can drill down to: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php and access the sons' attestation papers.
You can also drill down to the link: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/index.jsp and find the posted 1911 census - the location info is Home / 1911 / British Columbia / Kootenay / 27 Ymir riding / page 9 split view
You can click on split view and save the pdf. Alternatively, with this location info, you can look up at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1911/index-e.html and access the image as: http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e001937139.pdf It's the same image, but the latter route also has a link to "search help" which is useful if you're not familiar with the fields on a 1911 Canadian census.
NB Creston is at the S end of Kootenay Lake, abt 10km from the US border in the SE corner of BC.
Jane is a bit of a mystery - I think Jane=Jean and she's double listed. I'm not sure how much the names were treated as identical - I'm only familiar with one geordie family with a Jean, but they had Scottish origins which would account for their treatment as the names being identical. I'm also a bit puzzled abt Jane's absence from the 1891 census at rg12/4205, although she's there in 1901 where we see the 1911 Turners
[rg13/4815 is a Castle Ward piece #] [rg12/4205 is a Newcastle St Andrew piece #]

Thank you to Margaret Manson and mgnv for your help. This is the family I was searching for. They were all born at Pit Houses, Prestwick and Robert lost a son at 2 months of age, his wife Margaret at 39 and his daughter mary Phillis at 15, all this in a nine year span. No wonder they wanted a fresh start ! Thanks for the assistance, helps greatly.
