I am trying to identify the family of my 2xgt grandfather, George TURNER, who (from census declarations) was born in Woolwich, Kent ca. 1818-9. He was in Manchester by the mid 1830s, as he married there and had 2 children by the 1841 census. The IGI throws up 2 possibles. One is George Sermon Turner, s. of David and Elizabeth (believed née Wickham, and probably from Lenham village). I have found no siblings. My George never used the name Sermon (but that doesn't mean anything, who would?), and as mine was consistent in his age, this one would have been older) with baptism 17 August 1817, Woolwich St Mary. The other was baptised Greenwich St Alphage 1 August 1819, s. of Jesse and Letitia (née possibly Walker). The age is closer but the location slightly out. Here there are several siblings, and the family appear to have been itinerant workers or travellers. Can anyone relate to either of these couples and help me eliminate one George? |
