I'm trying to find any info on the Williams family of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.

Mary Grace Williams married Norman Edward Walker in November 1940, they had a son John Edward in January of 1941. On her marriage cert she was listed as a shop assistant and was living at Pinchbeck Road Scunthorpe, her fathers name was John Williams. (John was deceased by 1940.)

I've been told that she met someone else during the war years and moved to Canada with son John. Norman Walker had to wait 7 years for a divorce as she couldn't be located. I'd love to hear from anyone who could confirm this or provide any proof/info etc, or from any other family members still living in the Scunthorpe area.

Many thanks

Jo

thanks for the Cleveland info, that's the one I originally found and got excited about - until I realised the ages were slightly out.

This is my original link:

Will mail Lynne and see if she can find any others!

Thanks for your help both of you.

After 1935

Records of immigrants arriving at Canadian land and seaports from January 1, 1936 onwards remain in the custody of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. To request a copy of another person's immigration record, you must mail your request to the under-noted office:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Public Rights Administration
360 Laurier Avenue West
10th Floor
Ottawa, ON
K1A 1L1

so maybe there are no records online.

Thanks Liz... will look into that.

Hopefully it wasn't just a rumour spread at the time, you know how these things get out of proportion! You never know, John may still be living in the uk totally oblivious to us all...

Hope I manage to find him one day...

Have been speaking to a gentleman in Cleveland and it's looking like the 1951 crossing is not the pair I'm looking for. An older John Walker crossed to the same address earlier that year so it's looking like he was the husband and they followed out later. I was a little sceptical due to the slight age differences. Unfortunately not my pairing!

I can't find any further info on them from the date of John's birth cert which was 12.01.1941

What kind of info would my local library be able to offer? I know they do microfiche but no idea on where to start on that side of things! I have the addresses Norman and Mary were at on their marriage, and also the address they lived at when John was born...

Any ideas on how to progress?
