Trying to find information on my Great-Nans first husband.
Name-Johnny Walker
DOB-around 1888
Death-He hung himself in 1918.
Wife-Lucy
Children-Norman, Vera and Neville.
I really want to know about his parents and his brothers and sisters(or if he had any). I also want to know whether he had any children before he met Lucy.
Thanks,
Holly.

Ok........... so could Norman have been born prior to their marriage, remember this is the time of WW1 and John could have been away, then came back to marry Lucy????????

Sorry Holly, I'm going to bombard you with questions, just trying to find them for you.

How do you know John died in 1918, where does the estimate of the birth year come from?

Did your G Nan Lucy marry again?

Where does the Shropshire part come into play, his birth, his death?

The more we know............. hopefully will lead to the more we can find.

Holly Report 23 May 2009 14:56

I know he died in 1918 because he died when Lucy was pregnant with their 3rd child Neville, who was born in December of that year.
Yes, Lucy married again to a John(Jack) Nicholls and then they had my nan in 1925.
Well, i think it happened in Shropshire because Lucy was born and died there and my Nan was born there.
Thanks.
Holly.

Holly Report 23 May 2009 15:05

yep...???

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 23 May 2009 15:13

Ok......... So your Nan was born in the district of Clun aswell.

If you know Lucy's fathers name I would consider ordering the marriage certificate which I found earlier........ I have a strong feeling that it could be correct.

Vera's birth would tie in and a birth for Norman in the same district prior to their marriage would also tie in................ this would be the only definate way to find any information on John, the marriage cert would give you his age and occupation. It will also give his fathers name and occupation....... this will help you to search for his siblings.

You might even find him on the WW1 records (unfortunately there are sooooooo many John Walkers that it would take ages to search the WW1 records with out further info....... I did try!!)

Did your nan have a brother Graham?? 'cos there is a birth in Clun for Graham J a few years later than your Nans.

Holly,

there is a free site called FREEBMD.

If you go onto that and just put her name and year of birth in it will come up.

Just using the Surname and mothers maiden name and the district CLUN...... shows the birth of Graham.

You can order cerificates on-line at The General Register, costs £7.00, will take about 1 week to arrive. On the previous page of this thread will be all the details for the ordering; District West Derby, Year 1916, Quarter Dec, Volume number 8b and Page number 843.

Make sure you tick the box stating that you know the area/district or they will charge you more.
